Understanding Different Bra Styles

Choosing the right bra can be a minefield. I thought it might be useful to put together something of a guide on a few of the more popular bra styles available today and my favourites, and how to pick out something that will not only suit you and your needs, but make you feel fantastic.

Full Cup

Whereas the other styles I’ve listed up until now tend to focus more on aesthetic in one way or another, the full cup is designed to focus more on full coverage, support, and comfort. This offers the most benefit for women with larger cup sizes, who need the additional support. This is also a good option for women who need a bit more comfort throughout the day. That isn’t to say, however, that there aren’t some gorgeous examples of full-cup bras available, such as the Prima Donna Deauville bra, a best seller across the world, providing unparellelled support and comfort

Balcony

Of all the different bra styles, this is one of my personal favourites, and evidently, I’m not the only one who feels this way. Also known as the balconette and the half cup, this bra style remains one of the most popular and best-selling, and with good reason. Balcony bras are designed to give you a natural lift, without the aid of padding, and are designed to show off a bit more cleavage than other styles might. Bras in this style tend to cut straight across the bust line, giving you more of a shelf. This can be incredibly flattering on your physique, especially when worn with a low-cut top or dress. Personally, I would recommend this flirty style to be worn on nights out, or to be paired with a gorgeous dress or evening gown. This Lise Charmel Soir De Venise Balcony bra is stunning

Push-Up

It’s really in the name - but the push-up bra is designed to lift and enhance cleavage, incorporating padding or moulding to push your breasts inwards and upwards, creating the appearance of fuller, larger breasts. This style can be a little less comfortable if worn on a daily basis, but it is an excellent choice for nights out, or for anyone with a smaller cup size who would like a little boost. The Lise Charmel Dressing Floral push up bra remains a favourite customers at Ouh La La

Strapless

The perfect choice for hot summer days. This is an absolute essential for strapless dresses and certain off-the-shoulder looks. A good strapless bra should provide effortless, discreet support throughout the day without the constant need for readjustment - leaving you confident to tackle whatever the day throws at you. Even if the strapless isn’t the choice you reach for every time, there are certain occasions where this bra style is an absolute must, and for that reason I’d recommend that everyone have at least a couple of these in their collection.
